Gravity hits cinemas November 7th, we were lucky enough to bag some tickets to an advanced screening of Gravity, check out the review…
“After watching the trailer which gives nothing away, we were very intrigued by the highly anticipated Gravity. After grabbing our 3D glasses, we got some prime seats right in the middle.
Immediately disorientated with an overwhelming feeling that we were in space with Dr Stone (Sandra Bullock) & Matt Kowalsky (Geroge Clooney), the film opens on the duo & a 3rd member of the team, fixing the outside of their shuttle, hundreds of miles from Earth. Warning from mission control makes them scurry back to the air lock for safety but disaster strikes in the form of a scattering of space debris before they make it and their world, as it is, falls in to chaos.
Without giving too much away, we’re put through an emotional rollercoaster, discovering Stone has recently lost her daughter she also reveals she loves the silence of space & has no one waiting for her to come home. Neither does Kowalsky, but his uplifting humour and jokes lift the mood in the cinema, and the laughter cuts through to show how tense everyone was moments earlier! The graphics are more than impressive (apparently all the constellations that you see are accurate!) & I won’t say whether everyone gets back home, but to quote Dr Stone – it was “one helluva ride”.
We’re giving Gravity a stonking 4.5/5 stars!”
Alfonso Cuarón had to invent his own technology to create Gravity, namely The Lightbox. This small cube was filled with over 4000 LED bulbs and a camera which could rotate 360 degrees which, when Sandra Bullock was fixed inside, could mimic zero-gravity by lighting her face and spinning the camera as extensively planned by the director, resulting in truly groundbreaking space photography! Hi-tech stuff, which makes this film all the more phenomenal to watch.
Here are 3 more must see movies whose technical innovation changed the film industry game…
Star Wars: Episode VI – Return Of The Jedi (1983) - George Lucas ensured that a high-quality of picture and sound was upheld as he intended for his final original Star Wars chapter by developing a general system of audio/visual standards called ‘THX’ to be used in cinemas. This standard was updated in 2002, as filmmaking technology improved, but is still used today!
Toy Story (1995) - Pixar’s much-loved family film was the first film to be made entirely using CGI, paving the way for a majority of films that now dominate the box-office. The studio now perfect specific animation techniques with each new release, for example: hair in Monsters Inc (2001) and water in Finding Nemo (2003).
Avatar (2009) - Despite James Cameron planning to film Avatar after he completed Titanic (1997), he found that the technology he required had not yet been invented. The director took this matter into his own hands and created the stereoscopic equipment himself, giving the movie its unique and celebrated 3D depth.
To celebrate the release of The Haunting In Connecticut 2, in cinemas on 31st October, we spoke to a paranormal expert who listed ten ghost-hunting clues to look out for this Halloween. So get your spook sleuth on and work out whether or not you really are alone in your house…
1. Unexplained sounds often heard throughout the day or night– footsteps, voices or the opening/slamming of doors that cannot be attributed to something.
2. Sudden increases or drops in temperature – cold spots in rooms or a sudden, intense feeling of heat are classic indicators of paranormal activity.
3. Objects seen levitating or moving on their own–rare but if it does occur, take note of whether it is a random object or the same one multiple times, as this could be a message or a clue to who your spirit was.
4. Unexplained smells -such as perfume, tobacco, decay, and sulphurare often associated with memories of a departed resident, is the smell familiar to you?
5. Feeling or an unnerving sense of being watched – also strong feelings of sorrow or dread are common.
6. Seeing apparitions, light anomalies and shadow people – again, highly rare but these can take many forms, and can be very realistic, which appear and disappear very quickly.
7. Physical assault by unseen hands – scratches, slaps and hard shoves. This kind of personal assault is extremely rare, but obviously highly disturbing.
8. Interference with electrical objects and lights – psychokinetic phenomena such as lights turning on and off or the TV changing channel is the most concrete proof available that something unexplainable is occurring.
9. An electrically charged environment – those who describe being touched by a ghost often describe it as the feeling of static electricity in the air or on their skin.
10. Items randomly disappearing and reappearing–if not attributed to someone else in the house, this is often the work of a mischievous poltergeist.
The Haunting In Connecticut 2 is a new must-see horror and tells the true story of the Wyrick family who moved house when Heidi was 8, activating a disturbing family burden. Upon moving into their new home, both mother and daughter begin experiencing terrifying visions of previous residents and the horrors that occurred at the house years before. Do the visions hint at the onset of a shared family madness, or are they clues to a real-life nightmare that once took place on the property?
Now you’re clued up on all the signs of ghostly activity, check out this exclusive interview with The Haunting In Connecticut 2 cast members Katee Sackhoff and Emily Alyn Lind, as they discuss meeting the actual Wyrick family they play on set!
Not spooked enough yet?

Breaking Bad finishes on Monday, how is it all going to end for Walter White and co? We can speculate but we’re just going to have to wait and the anticipation is driving us bonkers. What on earth are we going to do with ourselves once it’s all over?
Don’t despair, we’ve pulled together this autumn’s biggest shows that will keep us entertained on those dark autumn evenings right up until Christmas special season starts. Here are our Top 5 TV shows to tune into this autumn…
Carrie and Nicholas are back for a third series on the 6th of October. Looks like Nicholas has orchestrated a terrorist attack on US intelligence and done a runner. Carrie and Saul are in hot pursuit. Hoping this series will keep us on the edge of the sofa this autumn like the previous two!
Suit up like Brody: Shop men’s suits.
Thursday evenings are sorted with Celebrity Juice. This show has become a staple part of our TV diet over the years and we’re a big fan of Keith’s off the wall presenting style. It’s rude, it’s funny and it’s got a tonne of celebrities embarrassing themselves. What’s not to love?
Channel your inner Kieth Lemon: Shop printed shirts.
A League of Their Own
One of our favourite blokes banter game shows is back, hosted by Gavin and Stacey funny man James Cordon. When we’re back from the pub on a Friday night, kebab in hand, there’s not much we’d rather do that pit our wits against the shows special guests, yelling at the telly like a mad man, spluttering kebab lettuce into our laps.
Plus it’s always good value watching the blonde one from One Direction getting a tattoo from James Corden…
Get the sporty varsity look: Shop baseball jackets.
On October 18th Season 4 of The Walking Dead hits the UK. Our favourite cop, Rick Grimes is back after the Season 3 cliff hanger in this Zombie apocalypse drama that is bound to have us entertained throughout this autumn.
Out run the zombies: Shop trainers.
We’re coming up to the boot camp stages already and although we hate to admit it, every series gets us hooked. We’re a little bit gutted that the auditions are over because we LOVE an audition fail…
Staying in with the missus on a Saturday night is a great way to earn some extra brownie points, even more so by agreeing to watch X-Factor whilst pretending you hate it. Best to cover up the fact you’re a complete sucker for this series and secretly rooting for Melanie McCabe. Doubt your girlfriend would be too happy about that one so keep schtum.
Gary’s a bit of a style icon and loves a polo shirt: Shop polo shirts.
